Tips to Fix Scratches on Your Car

Most times, fixing smaller scratches on your car is something you can easily do at home via tried and tested methods like polishing and compounding. Quicker fixes yield temporary solutions. Here are some at home remedies to fix scratches on your car:

  • Paint Polish or Rubbing Compound – Correcting a car’s paint via polishing and compounding is the most effective long-term solution for how to fix scratches on a car. Use the least aggressive polish first that way, if you underdo it, you can always do more. If you overdo it, it can’t be undone. We recommend using a light polish with a less abrasive foam pad first, and working your way up to higher-grit polishes or compounds if you see that scratches still remain in your paint. Only if polishing doesn’t remove scratches do we recommend wet-sanding, the next step. Remember, you may not remove the entirety of the scratch. If it goes past the paint and you see metal, then touch-up paint or repainting are called for.
  • Wet Sandpaper – Deeper scratches that are still not down to the bare metal or primer can be remedied with wet sandpaper — but be warned — this method is NOT to be done lightly, or if you don’t have extensive auto bodywork experience. It’s usually best left to the pros for this reason.
  • Candle Wax – Rub the wax over the cleaned area to cover the scratch over. This is a very temporary fix.
  • Touch-Up Paint: Usually available at service centers like ours, this fix helps hide deeper scratches.

Any professional car detailer in Arlington or Fort Worth should be well-versed in all of the above (and more) scratch removal procedures. When it comes to preserving and protecting your Maserati, paying for professional scratch removal is always a recommended choice.

Tips to Fix Small Dents in Your Car

Looking to try at home dent removal? While, like scratch removal, professional dent removal is always a recommended option, these methods, if done correctly, could do in a pinch:

  • Plunger – Bathroom plungers (if clean, of course!) or car dent plungers will do if the dent in question is relatively larger in size. With this method, you can normally pop the dent out with several attempts. Sometimes, if the dent is too large or small, this method won’t work, though.
  • Dent Puller – Only proceed with this if you’re used to using this method as this requires drilling a hole in the dent, lacing the wire through and pulling the dent back to surface level. You’ll then need to fill the hole, sand it down, and paint.
  • Hammer or Mallet – Using one of these on the opposite side of the dent can help knock the spot back into place. Use the hammer for smaller fixes and the mallet for larger dents. Be sure to protect the side you are hammering with a towel or something equivalent to avoid more damage. Like the dent puller method, the mallet method requires a bit more car and auto body expertise.
