How to Clean Leather Car Seats

Are you finding that your leather seats have gotten quite dirty from your Arlington commutes? Are you more of a “do-it-yourself” person? Believe it or not, cleaning leather seats by yourself is actually easier than you might think and will save you money on service. Continue reading on how to clean leather car seats step by step with the service team at Momentum Maserati.

What You’ll Need

Before you jump right in, you’ll want to gather the following supplies:

  1. Leather cleaner, saddle soap, mild leather soap, or 1 part white vinegar/2 parts linseed oil solution
  2. A vacuum that you can easily fit into your car, like a bagged canister vacuum.
  3. A few microfiber towels
  4. A soft-bristled interior brush

How to Clean Leather Car Seats: The Steps

  1. First, consult your owner’s manual for specific instructions on what products NOT to use for your exact model.
  2. Vacuum the seats carefully to remove all particles, taking extra caution to avoid scratching the leather. To get into the cracks, use a crevice tool attachment or an air compressor.
  3. Take your leather cleaner of choice and spray it on your microfiber towels, then use the microfiber towel to wipe down the seats, removing surface debris and oils.
  4. Next, spray the cleaner directly onto the seats. If you have perforated leather seats, spray the cleaner onto the soft-bristled brush to use on the seats. Gently scrub the surface.
  5. Once you’re done, wipe down the seats using a dry microfiber towel.

How to Condition Leather Car Seats

To prevent leather from cracking and drying out, conditioning your leather seats is a great way to maintain the softness of your seats to keep your Fort Worth drives comfortable. Here’s how to condition them:

  1. Get a leather conditioner with only natural ingredients, steering away from products with ingredients like petroleum distillates, waxes, and silicones.
  2. Taking a clean and dry microfiber rag, apply a small amount of conditioner.
  3. Using a circular rotation, gently work the conditioner into the leather seats.
  4. Let the leather absorb the conditioner for an hour before touching the seats. Make sure you keep your car out of the sunlight during this time, so the leather can fully absorb the conditioner without drying out too quickly.
  5. When the seats have fully absorbed the conditioner, take a new microfiber cloth and carefully buff the leather seats.
